Finished Steel Share in Iran Steel Exports is only 10%

Tuesday 14 November 2017

The Vice president of Iran Steel Producers Association Mr. Hamidreza Taherizadeh, pointing to the target of 8 million tonnes for steel exports this year said “Unfortunately, in these target, more focus is on record keeping and statistics, while it should be noted. In addition to quantitative upgrading, the country’s export basket of steel to the final products will be enhanced. For example, out of about 3.98MnT of steel exports during current year (Mar 21 – Oct 22), only 10% belongs to finished products and more than 84% belongs to ingots and slabs.”

Mr. Taherizadeh emphasized the necessity of expanding the export of steel products. To promote the export of steel to the country, it is necessary to provide export incentives, and these incentives should be considered as being more for the final products and as a step towards anything. The upstream of the steel chain is moving down, falling.
According to the data released by IMIDRO, major Iranian steelmakers exported 3.98 MnT of semi-finished and finished steel during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (March 21-Oct. 22), registering a growth of 24% Y-o-Y. The export volume for the seventh month of the year (Sept. 23-Oct. 22), stood at 437,270 MT, down by 18% Y-o-Y.
