Brazil Billet Exports Rise 10% in August 2017

Brazil, the world’s second largest Semi finished exporter, has exported about 620,000 MT

Billets in August 2017, recent released data by Brazilian customs reported.

The exports have surge by 10.71% M-o-M in Aug’17 against 560,000 MT in Jul’17. During Aug’17, United States has imported approximately 29% (180,000 MT) billets from Brazil.

Coming to total exports in CY2017 (Jan-Aug), the data shows about 4.88 MnT billet exports, surged by 22% against 4.00 MnT in the same preceding CY2016.

Further, on yearly calculation the billet exports were reported around 6.25 MnT in CY2016 & at 6.90MnT in CY2015.

With rising steel demand globally, the crude steel production of country was marked at 30.21 MnT in 2016. Meanwhile, in 2017 (Jan’17-Jul’17) the figure of crude steel production stood at 19.59 MnT.

Country wise:

During August 2017, the largest importer of Brazilian originated billet was United States (0.18 MnT), Mexico (0.10 MnT), Canada (0.09 MnT) & Dominican Republic (0.05 MnT).

In the month, the major export of Billets were from the ports of Vitoria (0.27 MnT), Pecem (0.18) & Rio De Janeiro (0.18 MnT). While more than 44% of exports were done from the port of Vitoria till August’17.

In the total billet exports during CY 2017 (Jan-Aug), the favourable export destination of Brazilian billet was – United States (1.72 MnT), Mexico (0.51 MnT), Argentina (0.35 MnT), Germany (0.30 MnT) & Turkey (0.27 MnT).
