Ukraine Billet Exports Decline by 9% in July’17 – Customs Data

Ukraine, the 3rd largest semi finished exporter, has exported about 410,000 MT billet in July 2017, according to trade statistics released by department state statistics service of Ukraine.

The exports registered a downfall of 8.88% M-o-M in Jul’17 against 450,000 MT in Jun’17. During Jul’17, Italy has imported approximately 34% (140,000 MT) billets from Ukraine. Further, in the duration of CY17 (Jan- Jul), the country’s total export for billet was at around 3.46 MnT.

With rising country’s steel demand, the crude steel production also marked a hike by 13.83% to 1.81 MnT in Jul’17 against 1.59 MnT in Jun’17. Meanwhile, in 2017 (Jan’17—Jul’17) the figure of crude steel production stood at 12.77 MnT. Prior to this, it was at 24.23 MnT in CY16 & 22.97 MnT in CY15.

Country wise:

During July 2017, the largest importer of Ukrainian originated billet was Italy & Egypt which imports about 140,000 MT & 100,000 MT, respectively.

Similarly, in the total billet exports during 2017 (Jan-Jul), the major buyers of Ukrainian billet was — Italy 1.0 MnT (28.87%), Turkey 0.70 MnT (20.20%), Egypt 0.53 MnT (15.39%) & Algeria 0.30 MnT (8.81%).

Updates

1. The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 520-525/MT FoB India,125*125 BSP at USD 520-525/MT FOB Ukraine &150*150 Q235 are at USD 540/MT FoB China.

2. As per the sources, last week a large cargo of billet have concluded to Algeria by Ukrainian exporter at USD 550/MT CFR.

3. Last week, few cargoes of CIS-origin billet heard to have booked for Egypt at USD 535- 545/MT CFR or USD 515-525/MT FoB Black Sea.
