South Korean Iron Ore Import Up 4% in Aug’17

South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer after China and Japan, have imported 6.36 MnT iron ore in Aug’17, according to the trade data released by South Korean Customs.

Iron ore imports have witnessed an increase of 4% M-o-M as it was 6.4 MnT in Aug’17. However the country’s iron ore imports down by 1% Y-o-Y for the month of Jul as it was 6.4 MnT in Jul’16.

During the first 8 months of 2017, the country imported 47.14 MnT iron ore, up by 1% Y-o-Y as it was 46.45 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in Aug’17 was registered at 5.86 MnT, same as previous month of July’ 17 but  down 5% Y-o-Y compared with Aug’16, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.5 MnT, up two times M-o-M and Y-o-Y compared with the month of Aug’16.
